Foxed!!!

My friend Mohit who acompanies me daily during our evening walk session asked me a very simple question."why do birds dont feel shock when they sit on electrical lines."
It was simple because i have faced this question several times in life and never bothered to find its answer.I clearly remember this question used tobe asked in our phyiccs viva practical in class 12?
our reply used to be amusing. My friend had amazed me during practical when he had replied"they do feel the shocks,i have seen several birds lying dead under the electrical lines"
This reply was innocent and childish one too.My reply used to be"circuit, circuit is not complete sir,how wud current flow then, how would they feel shock then".It was an intelligent asshole's reply as i coudn't substanstiate that how is the circuit incomplete when line is connected between the two legs.Seriously ,now I feel It was a stupid reply being an electrical engineer and intellegent one being the class 12th tyro too.I now feel I used to think conceptually even if I was logically incorrect. It is unfortunate that I still cant answer this bloody question.Though I still can guess :may be their feets are insulated....watever..
This time i will find it out.
Googling this questions actually has made me to laugh a great deal. There are many electrical engineers overhere trying to show their engineering skillls.
"Why do birds sitting on electric wires do not get electrocuted?" is the question which was posted on yahoo Answers about an year ago.
reply 1)

reply 1) somflavi..gives me immense satisfaction as there are persons like me who considers others reply as the stupid one.I think he just needs to hang over the lines and estimate how less is the potential diference beteen the the points of contact.I wonder whether he would be alive for sharing his readings!!!
reply 2)

reply2)Alan winan is the gr8 personality as he believes in giving replies not pertaining to questions. He reminds me of my friend goel,I am his great admirer.

reply 3)

helixbur.. has a great sense of electrical engineering. He has Great knowledge of corona or "carona,"according to him.I wish he was rollno 04ees09 ,I would have loved to give viva with 2 goels sitting adjacent to me.

reply 4)

relpy 4) science_... didnt astound me at all.I love person who just mingles philosophy and spirituality with science. It is a real fun.Proff ibraheem is one of them,at least one tends to learn much about the god during teaching than one normally does.

Discussing such replies has assured me that I am not stupid one when it comes to replying questions.I know ,it is really really crass to discuss other's reply over here. But i cant help it yaar,I am simply "vellah" these days and this post would definately help me remember "gone are those days"when I would be the busiest one.

Goel?? vo kaha se aa gaya!!

Ek question meri tarf se. Incase u r not fr science backgrnd, STAY AWAY plz, it can harm u...

Theory -
A conductor (rod) when moved in an magnetic field (at right angles) develops potential difference across it. If we connect a bulb to its end, it glows. This is true.

Ques - A human (lets say u) is a good conductor (Incase u have doubts, try to insert ur fingers in that plug). Now if that human (i.e. U) runs with bulb on his head and earth's magnetic field is right angles to him (it is perfectly at right angles at equator tho)...WIll that bulb glow??

:P

try...correct answer will be posted when I come back fr Calcutta
wait for 5th July ;)

Cheers
AG

arre guptaji maan liya aapne electrical engineering ka first year hamare saath padha hain..ab bas..Bhai it is my playing time..I dont want further bombardment of questions that too of electrical engineering.:P
Goel is my viva companion,it would be injustice to him if i dont mention him even if it is for wrong reasons:P

haha this was fun reading..

i hope goyal and ibraheem sir discover yuor blog, they could do with a good laugh!

that slow roasting stuff was very funny... man am sure he steps out of his house with salt and pepper, incase a roasted bird falls on his head!

I can afford ibraheem sir to read this post but not goel.because at least i would get some spiritual and lucrative comments from sir but from goel, I can expect this only"annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn":P
hahaha u are right, i can imagine that guy carrying salt and pepper along with him...

hey all,
goel is my good friend ..there is nothing called misunderstanding between any of buddies..they were just a moment of levitation which I enjoyed while giving viva with him.I hope this will not bring sneers among my peers.
